  • Cooking Local Tuna In Cuba

Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki Terada gets invited by a friend for dinner, but then realizes that he must prepare the small dinner himself with what he's got. The tuna in the video was frozen and thawed out prior to preparing. One of the guests wanted Chef Hiro to make sushi from it but this was impossible. The history of the fish prior to being frozen is unknown and to assume it was as fresh as can be used for sushi is a risk he was unwilling to take. Instead, he cleans the fish to the best of his ability, and simply seasons it and uses some soy sauce that was very old to sautéed the fillets. It was decent but not up to his standard, however it was the best anyone can do. Obviously, the cutting board hasn't been properly attended to for a very long time, but in Cuba, they don't see this as ...

What would cause an entire ship’s crew to be found lying dead face up, mouths open, facing the sky? This wasn't even the Bermuda Triangle. It was 1947 just after World War Two, in the waters of Indonesia, when a chilling SOS call was widely received by several ships in the area, as well nearby Dutch and British morse code listening stations. The message was: "SOS, Orang Medan. All officers including captain dead, lying in chart room and on bridge, probably whole crew dead. SOS, SOS I die." GENERAL VIEW OF ENTRANCE TO CIRO REDONDO PLANT STORY: Cuba, battling a chronic energy deficit, has all the sunshine, wind and sugar to fuel what should be a booming renewables sector - if only it could find the money. The country's first utility-scale renewable energy project, a biomass plant in Ciro Redondo, is finally under construction thanks to an injection of funds from China, a socialist ally and in recent years, the island's merchant bank of last resort. Turning Cuba's renewables potential into reality has become a state priority over the past year since crisis-stricken ally Venezuela slashed subsidized oil shipments to Cuba that were supposed to help power its traditional plants. The government announced last July it was rationing energy, raising fears of a return to the crippling blackouts of the "Special Period" after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The energy shortage comes at a time when growing tourism and private business creation are generating greater demand. "The most challenging thing we have had to deal with in the last six years of developing this project has been the financing," said Biopower President Andrew Macdonald, while touring the site of the Ciro Redondo plant. The Scotsman, who has been doing business with Cuba for more than a decade, said the U.S. blockade had "strangled" funding from Europe "and other obvious sources", with banks afraid of sanctions. His start-up Havana Energy joined forces with a subsidiary of domestic sugar monopoly Azcuba to create Biopower in 2012, with a contract to build five plants attached to sugar mills. The plants are projected to use sugar cane byproduct bagasse and fast-growing woody weed marabu as biofuels, costing around $800 million to add some 300 MW to the grid. Biopower was finally able this year to start building the first one, thanks to a decision by China's Shanghai Electric Group Ltd to buy an equity stake in Havana Energy. The JV is now looking for external financing for the next four plants. Some international companies have shown an interest in gaining a foothold in the slowly opening Cuban market, encouraged by a three-year old investment law that allows full foreign ownership of renewables projects. On top of the U.S. trade embargo, which frightens banks from offering Cuba loans, Cuba's payment capacity is questionable. While it has improved its debt servicing record under President Raul Castro, it is falling behind on paying foreign providers. And it has little to offer as payment guarantees in hard currency. Its state electricity utility generates revenue in Cuban pesos, which are not traded internationally, only into convertible Cuban pesos at a state-fixed rate. The government has promised to unify those two currencies, but it is unclear how. Moreover Cuba does not belong to multilateral institutions like the Inter-American Development Bank that

Strangest paranormal ship mystery. Entire crew found dead on creepy ghost ship. The mystery crew of the S S Orang Medan mysteriously dies as if they had seen a creepy ghost ship while staring at the sun. SOS, SOS I die." The nearest ship and first to respond to the distress call was the American merchant vessel named the Silver Star, of Grace Lines in New York, who found the doomed ship drifting, dead in the water. The boarding party was immediately horrified to discover the Orang Medan's entire crew was “sprawled on their backs, their frozen faces upturned to the sun, with mouths gaping open and eyes staring, the dead bodies resembled horrible caricatures.” Is this a Bermuda Triangle Mystery? A fire in the cargo hold forced them to evacuate to the safety of the Silver Star, and there was an explosion so violent that it lifted the Orang Medan out of the water, before she quickly sank. Even stranger, no one had ever heard of the Orang Medan, or knows where it was registered, or what she was shipping where, or who was on board on that terrible, fateful day. Some assume it was a smuggler's vessel, other theorize that they may have been shipping illegal wartime chemicals on behalf of governments. Others imagine the gaping, upturned faces looking to the sky, as if in fear. This video contains imagery licensed as creative commons by: Zacatecnik. Cohiba Siglo V Origin : Cuba shapeName: Lonsdale Factory Name :: Dalias Ring Gauge: 43 Length: 170 mm / 6.6 inches Packaging Type : Dress Box of 25 - Tubos Back of 3 The Siglo line of Cohiba is one of the prestigious brand's and most of the successful names among true Habanos aficionados. Unofficially, the cigar line (Linea 1492) was started to replace the famous Davidoff Chateau series that was discontinued in 1991 along with the rest of the Swiss-based cigar merchant's range. Production has been confined almost exclusively to the rolling rooms of the Partagas factory across the street from Havana's capitol building. The Siglo V—called dalias in the rolling rooms—is the longest of the five smokes, identical in size to the ever-popular Partagas 8-9-8. However, the cigar delivers a richer and more refined character because of the special handling given to the tobacco for all Cohiba cigars. The filler and wrapper leaves are selected from the best plantations in Pinar del Río and then processed in a more precise way. The main point is that some of the filler tobacco undergoes a small, special fermentation process while it is held in Havana after being shipped in bales from tobacco warehouses in the provinces. The late Avelino Lara, who ran the Cohiba factory when the Siglo quintet was launched, called it "the special of the special for Cohiba." The Siglo V Tubo was the best Cohiba and best Cuban cigar we reviewed in 2009.

For the 2013 Ulster Bank Belfast International Festival at Queen's, Cuban-American Artist, Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada, has created WISH, a portrait of an anonymous local girl photographed by the artist in the process of making a pure and simple wish for the future. Spanning an 11 acre site in Belfast's Titanic Quarter, the photographic image of this girl - made of topsoil, sand, grass and stones - can be seen from various locations around Belfast. This innovative public artwork pushes boundaries and uses cutting edge technologies, making it one of the most ambitious land art projects in the world. Making WISH was no easy task. With 30,000 wooden stakes, 2,000 tonnes of soil, and 2,000 tonnes of sand, the WISH team had just four weeks to complete one of the largest realistic portraits the world has ever seen. WISH was created by the artist, in partnership with the city of Belfast and its people. It would not have been possible without the hundreds of hours contributed by volunteers - from individuals to community groups - and the generosity and support of local businesses and contractors including McLAughlin & Harvey, P.T McWilliams, Tobermore and Lagan Construction who donated expertise, materials, tools, machinery, staff, soil, sand and stones all free of charge. The land was donated by Titanic Quarter Limited and The Titanic Foundation. Utilising state of the art Topcon GPS technology and lots of old fashioned elbow grease, the artist and his team plotted out the site with stakes and builders' line before scores of volunteers got involved in spreading the various natural materials throughout the site. "Working at very large scales becomes a personal challenge but it also allows me to bring attention to important social issues, the size of the piece is intrinsic to the value of its message. Creativity is always applied in order to define an intervention made only with local materials, with no environmental impact, that work in harmony with the location." Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada On behalf of the artist and the WISH team, the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's would like to thank the following for their hard work, support and dedication in the realisation of WISH: Kilwaughter Lime, JP Corry, Murdock Builder's Merchant, KDM Hire, Batesy Skip Hire, Speedy Hire, Emerald Lawns, A McKee & Co Ltd, Norspace Ltd, Dalzell Landscape Company, Skyline Photography, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Nomadic Belfast, The Green Deli, The Dock Team Chris Bennett, Chris Hollies and Tegan Glover. The WISH Creative Team, without whom the project would not have been possible: Colm Clarke, Phil Hession, Tomàs Hughes, Senan Kelly, Ruaidhri Lennon, Barry Lowe, Ryan Moffett, Paul Slane, Ruairi Sherry, Maxim Surin, Neil Hall, Jordan Magee, William Johnston, Stephen Madden, Brendan McCabe and Chad Donaldson. And of course our wonderful volunteers, with special thanks to Amy Wagner and Ann Kristin Siversten.

CLICK HERE: http://unitedstatesmerchantmarine.org/ for Merchant Marine Application Accidental American Hello, I'm Victor, a Florida native and lifelong Miami resident, but it wasn't supposed to be that way. You see back in 1959 a bunch of guerillas led by a guy named Fidel Castro staged a revolution in Cuba, and by 1961 my parents and their families were on airplanes bound for Miami with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Those flights came to be known affectionately as the 'Freedom Flights'. Originally they fled Cuba as political refugees with the expectation of returning home after things had cooled down. Unfortunately, the October missile crisis of '62 cooled things down so much that even the most optimistic of them knew that they would be returning home later rather than sooner. Metaphorically speaking they were living in this country with one foot over here and their hearts over there. The turning point for my parents came on the day that my older brother was born. In their hearts on that day -- when they gave birth to their first child in America - they were transformed from political refugees to immigrants who were here to stay. A mixed blessing they always said. Giving up the home they loved so that the children they loved even more would be born free into the land of freedom and opportunity. Fast-forward, it's the summer of 2006 and I'm chitchatting with a Mexican ranchero I met while backpacking in Baja. We're hiking a goat trail in the high sierras passing time discussing animal husbandry when I asked him (in Spanish of course), "Vicente, what do you think of America?" "Victor, in Norte America you have everything, and everything is better. The trucks are better, the horses are better, everything is just better." Listening to my amigo speak lovingly about a country I spend most of my time away from made me think about something my mother once said. She said that giving birth to her children in the US of A was the greatest gift she ever gave us. Mom was right. Sure, there is much to complain about -- the housing bubble, the environment, the economy, Iraq, taxes, etc. The list is long, no doubt about it, yet everyday people like my parents line our borders whose greatest dream is to have what you and I already have. What is it that we have? The personal freedom and opportunity to be whatever we want, to do whatever we want, to go wherever we want, whenever we want and with whomever we want. As a second-generation American kid growing up Cuban in Miami the whomever I chose for friends were Italian, Nigerian, Chinese, Nicaraguan, Jewish, German, and of course, American. So you want to know what diversity means to me? Diversity means that a bunch of diverse people from diverse places can all come together and do it much better together than we could ever do it alone. Sincerely, Captain Victor L. Antunez United States Merchant Marine Get more Merchant Marine information here: http://www.youtube.com/user/USMerchantMarines?feature=mhee
